Stuart Cook Magee passed away on May 19, 2026, to join his parents, Charles H. Magee and Jerrie H. Magee, along with numerous friends who predeceased him. Stuart was born in Alexandria, LA, and lived in Metairie most of his life, attending Jesuit High School and Delgado Community College.
Stuart was a kind and compassionate soul who was willing to give the shirt off his back or his last dollar to anyone who needed it. Stuart always had a love for music and found his place in the industry when he started working in stage construction. While he worked on many stages for numerous festivals and events, his favorite was the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where he became a fixture for decades and established many lifelong friendships. Jazz Fest became his home each year as construction would begin weeks before the crowds showed up and end weeks afterward. There is no place he would rather be.
Stuart later moved to Ethelsville, Alabama, where he worked installing and refinishing wood flooring. He became part of the community, serving as a volunteer firefighter, and took up deer hunting. In 2014, Stuart returned to Metairie to help care for his father, who was battling cancer.
Stuart is survived by three siblings who spent time with him during his final days: Bryant (Teresa), Neil, and Sali.
Details for the Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
