Mom, we love and miss you so much. We will do our best to take of Dad and we promise to take care of the babies and ourselves  too, I love you Mom, thanks for all you  taught us.

Mom, remember always that we will take care of dad the best we can.  I'm sure you are holding that door open for him, as well as all of us, to be together again one day.  You will be missed more than I can express.  Your loving daughter.


"We are all here as children of God, we are sent here from God on loan to be with our loved ones.  And now God has called Mom back home to be with her parents and siblings.  

So today we remember and celebrate the life of a great lady. You may know here as Sylvia, Aunt Mae, Mom, Maw Maw, or Mrs. Smith, regardless we were all fortunate to have had her in our lives.  Just recently we enjoyed a a family crawfish boil and like many times before for Mom it was always about FAMILY.

Mom grew up wanting to be a teacher and to have a large family. She succeeded at both these things.  Though not formally a teacher she taught us SO SO MUCH.

Like most good teachers she led by example-  she used her roles as wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother to teach – and we love and thank her for that,

At 21 she met and married her true love, Carl.  Their relationship is the foundation of this family and an inspiration to all of us- I know for myself this is especially true. 
Together they raised 6 children and through many ups and downs Carl and Sylvia loved each other more everyday.  They shared everything from faith to football. From onion sandwiches to cruise ships and Disney world They made the very best of things and knew what was truly important.

She loved babies,her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Nothing seemed to make her smile like visiting with them, whether she was teaching them their colors or a favorite recipe she loved being with them.

Mom didn't drive a car but she drove a mean shopping cart. Mom loved to shop because she loved to cook for family~
Mom truly loved to cook, we never went hungry (obviously) and neither did anyone who visited.


Mom had so many recipes she and our family even made our own family cookbook with just some of the best dishes.  We call it “The Smith Pot”.  And while the top chef is no longer cooking in this world I promise you she  is busy right now preparing spiritual nourishment and holding the door open with warm welcome for us for when we too are called home."

Mom- I am sure you are already in heaven. Please give Ernie and grandma and grandpa a big hug for me.
