

Ted James Jeansonne peacefully passed away on Friday, October 18,2024 at the age of 89. He fought bravely during a prolonged hospitalization but eventually succumbed. He was born on May 30, 1935 and was a lifelong resident of his beloved Crescent City. He loved everything naturally “Nawlins” including the Saints, Mardi Gras, and Dixie beer.
He was married to the love of his life, Janice Falco Jeansonne for 64 years until her death from Alzheimer’s disease. He remained completely devoted to her. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Clemille Peter Jeansonne and Ivy Travasos Jeansonne and his brother, John Abner Jeansonne.
He is survived by his beloved children, Mark James Jeansonne (Paula) and Michelle Jeansonne Turnley M.D. and his 7 grandchildren, George Edwin Turnley Jr., Mark James Jeansonne Jr., William B. Jeansonne Turnley (CeCe), Elizabeth Turnley Poynor (Will), Rebecca Ivy Turnley ,Christopher James Jeansonne, and Alexander James Jeansonne. He is also survived by his 3 great-grandchildren, Willis Hackett Turnley, Virginia Beatrice Turnley, and Edith Anne Turnley.
Ted graduated from Alcee Fortier High School in uptown New Orleans. He was deeply rooted in the neighborhood where he grew up. His first job was delivering groceries for the family business, Jeansonne’s Grocery, where he was a familiar fixture. He began his career in data processing but finished his career as a court reporter for Jefferson Parish.
He and his wife were long time parishioners of St. Clement of Rome Parish since its inception, where he was a member of the Mens Club.
Ted loved to spend time with family, visiting the French Quarter, beach trips, and travel with Janice and his friends. He was known to be steadfast and honest. He was nicknamed “The Rock” by some of his wife’s friends and was proud that he beat multiple myeloma at the age of 75. What stood out about his life was his devotion to his wife and love of his family.
The family would like to give special thanks to the kind nurses and staff at the LTAC Unit at Ochsner Foundation who lovingly cared for Ted throughout his hospitalization. They are truly angels!
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Clement of Rome Church, 4317 Richland Ave. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM - 11 AM, with a funeral Mass to begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
