Thomas “Tommy” John Brown, a longtime resident of Metairie, LA passed away on March 21, 2023 at the age of 94. Tommy was born June 14, 1928 to the late Rettie Nettles Brown and Aureland Moak Brown in Auburn, Mississippi. Tommy graduated from Metairie High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 7, 1946 and was discharged February 5, 1950 obtaining the rank of Corporal. Tommy served in the Asiatic-Pacific area from September 1946 to August 1948, remaining an active member of the local Marie Corp League after discharge. Upon returning home, he worked in the insurance industry, then in October 1966, he opened Lagniappe Luncheonette on Airline Hwy. in Metairie, LA. Tommy was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lillie Georgie Brown and his daughters-in-law, Marion Lynn Brown and Patricia “Sue” Brown along with numerous siblings and in-laws. Tommy is survived by his children, Clayton G. Brown (Sharon), Tommye Jeanne Hodges (Terry), Lawrence “Larry” G. Brown (Abby), Gregory G. Brown, Jeffery G. Brown (Helen) and Bradley G. Brown (Jessica) along with 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, LA.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 31, 2023 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm with a presentation by the Marine Corps League at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
