On Saturday, January 19, 2019, Vera B. Mistretta, age 95, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully left her earthly body to be with the Lord. Vera was a native of New Orleans and was a resident of Harahan, LA. Vera is now joyously reunited with her beloved husband of 55 years, the deceased Deacon Nicholas L. Mistretta. She will be remembered as the loving mother of Nicholas L. Mistretta, Jr. (wife, Cindy), the doting grandmother of Sara (Josh), Katie (Robbie), Virginia (Jonathan), Jason (Belinda), and Nicole, and the adoring great-grandmother of Ethan, Sophia, Ember, Andrew, Luke, Harper, Blake, Leo, Scarlett, Josephine, and Kurt. Daughter of the late Ignatius and Vera Baio. Sister of Marie Hebert and Ethel Lynch. Vera is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as Mary and Tommy Next Door. Vera found joy in life from serving others, feeding everyone, dancing, and most importantly her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the USO and taught dance at the YMCA. She was a parishioner of St. Rita Church in Harahan, where she participated as a Eucharistic minister, a member of CYO, Ladies’ Altar Society, and the Bereavement Committee. Vera was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a shining example of God’s love. She is cherished by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., in Metairie, on Wednesday, January 23 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. There will be a visitation at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., in Harahan, beginning at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 24, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA.
