Wesley David McCann

Wesley David McCann, age 88, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Therese Martin McCann, his wife of 64 years. Father of Carolyn M. Haar (the late Michael P. Haar), David Paul McCann (lost at birth), Sheila M. Butler (Robert J. Butler), David G. McCann (Laurie H. McCann), Sandi M. Fury (Blaine S. Fury), Joanie M. Bernius (John F. Bernius) and Julie McCann. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Son of the late John Joseph McCann and Margaret Thompson McCann. Brother of the late Floyd J. McCann. Cousin of the late Walter McCann. Born July 24, 1924 in New Orleans, LA. Graduated from Samuel J. Peters High School and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received the Purple Heart as a combat engineer in Company “C” of the 25th Armored Engineer Battalion, 6th Armored Division of Patton’s Army. His unit was instrumental in liberating the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He was a retired employee from the U.S Department of Agriculture. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 4921 West Metairie Ave, Metairie, LA, of which Mr. McCann was a founding member. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery No.1 in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to St. Michael Special School, 1522 Chippewa St., New Orleans, LA 70130 are preferred.
