

Dr. William Myles Roeling (June 11, 1928 to February 11, 2011). Dr. Roeling died after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Dowrick Roeling, his sons, William P. Roeling, and his wife, Dana Landry Roeling, Myles E. Roeling, and his wife Shawn R. Roeling, Christopher N. Roeling (deceased) and Matthew R. Roeling. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, William M. Roeling and his wife Karyn Roeling, Lt.jg. Ryan C. Roeling and his wife, Julia Roeling, Laura Roeling, Alex Roeling and Blaire Roeling.
Dr. Roeling graduated from Jesuit High School in 1949, then attended Tulane and LSU as an undergraduate, and graduated from LSU Medical School in 1954. He served in the United States Navy as a field medical officer, and was assigned to the United States Marine Corps in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and served at the Naval Air Station in Agana, Guam. Returning from the Navy, he was employed by Stanacola Medical Clinic from 1957 to1958 in Baton Rouge, LA. He began his residency in OB-GYN at Charity Hospital in 1958 in New Orleans. He served as clinical instructor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, and Charity Hospital. He did his internship at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans and was also a member of the staff.
He was senior attending staff at Lakeside Hospital (1965-2000), Chairman of the OB-GYN Department (1981-1983), Member of the Board of Trustees (1985-1989) and Chairman of the Board (1988-1989). He was a member of the staff of East Jefferson General Hospital from 1972 until his retirement in 2000.
Dr. Roeling held memberships in the LSU Medical Society, the Jefferson Parish Medical Society, the New Orleans OB-GYN Society, was a founding member of the Jefferson Parish OB-GYN Society, and a member of the Southern Medical Association. He was also a past President of South Central OB-GYN Society, was a member of the Southeastern Surgical Society, and the American Fertility Association, and a member of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, medical disclosure panel.
He loved the Mardi Gras season and had a love for the water. These two loves led him to become a charter member of the Krewe of Bacchus, and a charter member of the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville, LA.
Visitation will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home , 4747 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, La. on Friday, February 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral Requiem Mass will be Saturday morning, February 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St Rita Catholic Church on 2729 Lowerline Street, New Orleans, La. with a visitation before the mass from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Immediately following the Mass there will be a reception across the street in the St. Rita School cafeteria from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Burial services will be private. Donations can be made to the East Jefferson Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
