

Wilson Alvin Reeves, a native of Mittie, Louisiana died on January 22, 2015. He was 95 years old. Wilson was preceded in death by parents, Darcy Reeves and Cora Simmons Reeves, his six siblings and his beloved wife Emily “Happy” Weilbacher Reeves. He will be missed by his family which includes his son, Paul Reeves, his three daughters, Kay Reeves Richard, Jean Reeves, and Lynn Reeves, and their respective spouses, four grandchildren, their spouses, and four great-grandchildren. For 30 years Dr. Reeves did chemical research at the Southern Regional Research Laboratory in New Orleans. The next nine years he was a Professor at LSU in Baton Rouge. His main areas of research were the development of wrinkle free fabrics, development of fire resistant textiles, and the development of weather resistant fabrics. He coauthored 350 scientific publications, including 2 books, seven chapters in books, and seventy U.S. patents. He received 18 awards for his research. Dr. Reeves is a member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Science Hall of Fame. Wilson was a Lt. in the Naval Air Corp. during World War II. He was a member of Bridgedale Baptist Church. Visitation will be at LEITZ-EAGAN, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 11:30 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon. Funeral service to follow.
