Yvonne June Fellon Hirstius

Yvonne June Fellon Hirstius, a retired Sergeant with the New Orleans Police Department, passed away Sunday morning, December 18, 2011 at her home in Bush, LA at the age of 86. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and called Bush, LA home for the last 40 years. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Angeline Fellon and the last survivor of 7 siblings; Clement Fellon, Eunice Norra, Lucille Cucinella, Inez Amundson, Ernest Fellon de Boisfontaine and June Berthonnaud. She was also mother of the late Deputy Kathleen A. Briscoe and Connie C. Briscoe. She is survived by her daughter, Yvette J. Briscoe-Thomas and fiancé Danny Nichols, daughter, Bonnie James McIntyre and husband Kenny and son, John E. James, Sr. and wife Barbara. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; John L.Watkins, Ronald T. Rand, Tiffany B. Thomas, Carl M. Thomas, Yvonne Passman, Kenneth Martin, Trinity (T.J.) Ganaway, Angela Ganaway, Deputy John E. James, Jr., Jennifer E. James, Jonathan E. James and the late Joseph E. James and will be sadly missed by great grandchildren; Garrick and Makena and many other beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She had taken flying lessons at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport and carried a Class D chauffeurs license to drive tractor trailers. She enjoyed reading, taking trips and spending time in her yard and gardens. She always put others before herself and always thought of her grandchildren. She worked all her life to make a home for her children and ensured they always had what they needed. After retiring from N.O.P.D., Sgt. Hirstius became a deputy with the Criminal Sheriff’s Office in New Orleans until her health prevented her from working any longer. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Louisiana Peace Officers Association. Family, friends and members of N.O.P.D., the Criminal Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Thursday evening, December 22, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Friday morning beginning at 9:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
