He was born in Quito, Ecuador, on September 13, 1920.
Survived by his wife, Nancy Torres Baca; sons, Marcello Baca and Fred Baca; daughter, Jacqueline Baca; grandchildren: Cheryl Savod, and Rafael Viteri IV, Danielle Baca, and Samantha Baca, great grandchildren; Jacob Savod and Logan Savod. He was preceded in death by his late wife Josephine (Pepita) Mino (1923-71) and his daughter, Susan L. Baca Viteri (1947-1992).
Mr. Baca grew up in Calderon, Ecuador and graduated from College in 1941. He spent his working career in the Airline industry starting with PanAgra Airlines in Ecuador in the 1940s. He moved to New York in 1953 and was hired by Pan-American Airways. He was the first Spanish Speaking supervisor in Passenger/Reservation Counter at the office in Rockefeller Center in New York City. He later transferred to Avianca Airlines in New York, and then Air Panama in Miami, Florida.
Within the Airline Industry, he held positions of Manager and Executive until his retirement in 2000. During his time at the airlines, he became the foremost expert in Tariff construction and conducted classes worldwide in constructing airline fares. He earned the moniker of ‘El Profesor’ from his many airline and travel agent students.
Mr. Baca was the first of his family to migrate to the United States and was able to pave the way for the rest of his family to join him. There are now well over 100 family members residing in the USA. When he was granted his US residency by the US Consul in Ecuador, the Consul told Angel, “We need more men like you in the U.S.”
Mr. Baca’s passion for tennis found him on the tennis courts until the age of 90 and he was hailed as an excellent player. He was an avid cyclist, and loved to read. He traveled all over the world for his work, and always claimed that the United States was the best place to live.
A memorial service will be held on January 17, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Little Havana Chapel, 3344 SW 8 St. Miami, FL 33135.
