(3/1/1930 – 7/28/2022)
Antonio Angel San Pedro Jimenez, was born in Havana, Cuba. He was the loving father of Patricia San Pedro, and husband of Vivian Wever San Pedro. His parents were Antonio Maria San Pedro Ariza and María de los Ángeles (Lila) Jiménez Lima.
Tony is one of the many proud students that went to Belen High School in Havana. Later he became a pioneer in Cuba, learning and managing one of the very first IBM accounting computers on the island, while he worked at the electric company in Cuba (Le Compania de la Electricidad).
In the early 60’s Tony fled Cuba to escape communism and headed to Miami Beach. As is the story of so many political exiles in Miami, Tony didn’t speak a word of English when he arrived. A white-collar professional in his homeland, Tony took every job he could to survive upon arrival, from selling sea horses, jewelry and professional cleaning formulas, to working as a porter and maintenance at the Southgate Towers, Forte Towers and as a doorman at the DiLido Hotel on Miami Beach. At one point, Tony started Amazon Fashions, a wig retail store on Lincoln Road. Eventually, he became a top award-winning realtor in Miami, a world traveler, and an active volunteer with the Miami Lion’s Club.
Tony, as he was known to most, was filled with humor until his last days. He had an over-abundance of chispa…a sassy and flirty spark that flowed through his veins, even into his 90s. He got that from his dad.
Tony always loved the beach, where he was pretty much known as a stud-muffin. There, on the white sand beaches of Santa Maria del Mar is where he met Daisy. They were married in Cuba and that’s where their daughter Patricia was born.
After Daisy passed in 1991, Tony was introduced by a co-worker, to his current wife Vivian, who happened to be his co-worker’s mother. They were married in 1997. As life would have it, Vivian, who was born in Aruba, shared many friends with Tony and Daisy…from Aruba to Miami, and the Netherlands. She’s been an angel in his life…and no doubt that their love was meant to be, and as Patricia and Vivian both believe, Daisy had a hand in their meeting. The two families became one.
Tony is also survived by his only sibling, his beloved sister, Marta Gonzalez, his nephews, Carlos Vallabriga, and Alex Gonzalez, and his loving stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
“To say I adored my papi is putting it mildly. He was always there for me, and the best dance partner I ever had. Papi worked hard his whole life and sacrificed so much to give me a four-year education at the University of Miami. He could not have been prouder of my four Emmy Awards, and THAT was the best reward for me. Whether he was dealing with real estate clients, his community work with the Lions Club, or just at home with friends and family….when my dad entered a room, you knew he was there. He filled our life with love, jokes, laughter and joy. The world is a bit dimmer today without his light.” Patricia San Pedro.
Tony passed from hydrocephalus which was diagnosed 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to La Ligue Contra el Cancer (The League Against Cancer). The League serves patients who lack the financial means to cover the costs of their treatment. https://ligacontraelcancer.org/
