

Betty Joan Smith Brigman, 93, of Homestead passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Betty was born on November 28, 1932, in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Betty built a distinguished career working in Human Resources for National Airlines as well as Eastern Airlines, where she was known for her professionalism, compassion and unwavering dedication to helping others. After retirement she remained an avid member of Eastern’s Silver Liners where she continued to enjoy their meetings, luncheons and comradery. She carried herself with grace and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. She was a proud resident of Miami Springs, and Betty became well known for her impeccable sense of style and elegance. She was selected as a member of the Ten Best Dressed Women of Miami, a title she acquired whether attending community events or simply enjoying a day out. She was the perfect model and representative for this prestigious group.
Coming from a lifetime history of sports, especially baseball, she was a lifelong super fan of the Miami /Florida Marlins. Her sports arena also included football, lifelong Miami Dolphins fan and as a graduate of The University of Miami, there was no team more beloved than “The U”. But her greatest love was watching her son and grandsons play and coach baseball. Game days were often filled with excitement, extended family, and celebration.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, John, her parents, Mack and Emily smith, her brother, John Smith, sister-in-law, Nancy Smith and brother-in-law Gerald Ward.
She is survived by her loving son, John Christopher (Chris), daughter-in-law, Leidy, her three cherished grandsons, Jacob, Justin, and John, her sister, Gwen Smith Ward, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
A funeral service for Betty with Mr. Scott Stemmer officiating will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd,2026 at
Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South 11655 SW 117th Avenue Miami, FL 33186
Viewing at 10 AM Service at 12:30 PM Interment will follow at 1:45 at Woodlawn South
