Clara Victoria Estevez, was born on May 6, 1928 in Oriente, Cuba, where she was the oldest of 12 children. She met our dad, Manuel Estevez (deceased) in Havana and married on October 10, 1953. My brother, Manuel Estevez Jr. (deceased) was born on December 12, 1954 and I, Lilia Estevez Gonzalez, on March 27, 1959. They made the brave decision to leave their homeland of Cuba to provide a better life for us all.
She worked as a seamstress for the Singer Company from 1967-1981 when she "retired early" to take care of my firstborn, Michael Gonzalez and subsequent grandchildren, Brian Estevez, Michelle Estevez and Alexander Gonzalez whom she loved fiercely and they all adore her. She was an exemplary woman, wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother and very blessed to know her cherished great-grandchildren, Jordan, Victoria and Lucy Gonzalez.
Mom was so blessed to have a wonderful daughter in law, Norma Sicca, who she thought of as another daughter as well as her parents Elsa (Pillina) and Jose Freyre (deceased), who became family from the very first encounter. She loved Elsa (Pillina) as a sister and they shared a very special bond to the very end. She is survived by her sisters, Vilma Acosta Piedra, Xiomara and Gloria. Mom was quiet but strong willed, she loved this great country, she was very welcoming to our friends, our children's friends and made everyone feel loved and at home.
She believed in God and it was her faith that carried her during the greatest loss a mother can suffer, the loss of a child, when my brother Manny, passed away at the tender age of 33 in 1989. While that void in her heart always remained, she still held on to faith, to love, to hope and that is the greatest gift she has given all of us who will remember, cherish and love her forever. I know that you're at peace and have rejoined the love of your life and your cherished son. Mom, you will be in our hearts forever.
