I met Mr Demetrio Perez around 2009 when I stated renting a building to him for a Lincoln Marti school. I was extremely impressed with Mr. Perez from day none. He was a straight as an arrow man. He was extremely honest and hard working. It was a pleasure meeting and working with him. I am saddened for his passing but I am sure he is with God now. Thank you Mr. Perez for making those around you better persons. I will miss you dearly. 

Our family attended the Matancero events and enjoyed every minute of Demetrio's hospitality and generosity of spirit to one and all - he never forgot to invite anyone no matter how far flung their location. He wanted them to know they were still a Matancero in all our hearts. 

Those of us in Demetrio's extended Matanzas family will always keep him in our hearts and thank him for reminding us of our illustrious heritage. He always recognized achievement in every one, and encouraged younger generations to reach for excellence in everything.  He kept our flame lit. 

Here is our mom Julia Margarita Allende de Diaz with the handsome Demetrio Jose, whom she admired and loved.  She was close to his beautiful mom, Ana Margarita Casas, who was directly responsible for securing exit visas for my sisters Ileana and Maira.  She will always be special to us. 

Here is a beautiful memory of Demetrio with our family - our mom Dra Julia Margarita Allende de Diaz, an educator and friend of his mother, Maruca. He loved our mom and never failed to show kindness and generosity to her. Myself standing next to him - he never forgot to acknowledge my academic achievements and always encouraged me to reach ever higher. My sister Ileana  and her daughter Mary - he supported her fundraising for the Rett Syndrome Foundation to benefit her daughter Julianne.  

Demetrio leaves a legacy of publications that encourage and validate everyone - he included our father Mario Tomas Diaz Trujillo  in his book of Profiles of Perseverance. Here are recognitions provided to a human rights advocate that we met.  He never failed to recognize the efforts for freedom and liberty.
