I met Eddie in 2003 when I was a newly promoted Sergeant. He was assigned to a less than desirable assignment and had every excuse to be upset with the world. Not one time was Eddie negative or talk bad about anyone in my presence. He only spoke about his family and his grand children. Eddie was the example of what a kind human being is supposed to look like. I will always remember Eddie as a hard worker, dedicated, loving and compassionate. Eddie left this world a better place than he found it and I for one like many others will miss his presence and I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. RIP brother🙏🏻✝️

I extend my deepest condolences to Eddie’s family and friends. During these difficult times, I find myself reflecting on the days Eddie and I worked together. I truly cherished his wisdom, experience, and the guidance he so generously shared with me—as well as his unwavering commitment to both his family and to law enforcement.

Whether serving as a patrolman, a field training officer, or a deputy sheriff, Eddie embodied the perfect balance between a deep love for his profession and a profound dedication to his community. I often think back to our conversations—especially those about his family, and the forgotten stories of our profession he would recount with such pride and humility.

I once asked him when he planned to retire. He chuckled and simply said, “I’m not.” That moment captured who he was: a man whose life’s path was rooted in service—to his family, his community, and his calling.

I will miss him dearly. But I am comforted and inspired by the way he lived his life and the love he had for those around him

Eddie, you will be forever in our hearts. Remembered with love and cherished by all who knew you.  In the 20 + years I had the honor of knowing you , I've realized they don't make them like you anymore.  🙏

It is with a sad heart that I learned of the passing of my colleague Eddie Orrett. Through the years I worked with Eddie, I learned his work ethic was second to none. He loved his job and was always willing to go out of his way to help new officers as well as the veterans. When asked a question he did not know, he would look for the answer, always making sure he got back to them. Eddie was revered as the Gentle Giant. He had a calming effect on everyone he would deal with. He had a personality that made people smile everyday, to include the people that walked into the Midwest Station. But the most important thing that I learned from Eddie was that he was a devoted family man. No matter what was going on during the shift, he would make time to call his wife and talk to his grandchildren, which made his day. I remember asking Eddie one day why he worked so hard. He said he did it for his family, especially his grandchildren. He did not want them to go through some things he went throughout his own life. 

My condolences go out to the entire family for your loss.

What an absolute privilege to have known an extraordinary soul like Eddie Orrett . . . 
Eddie Orrett was a diligent individual worth the honor bestowed to him by all of his colleagues, for he lived his life on his terms, never for himself but for his family and others . . . With a piercing smile and a commanding voice, he led the way with his tenure and experience; he was the first to react, first to respond, and first to arrive . . . Reliable, dependable, trustworthy, and an astute teacher; I will always remember his laughter and his wit, his limp, and jiggling keys . . . 
Learning of his conclusion saddens me tremendously and I am convinced that Eddie was the epitome of having lived a meaningful life till the very end. I pray for his family to find serenity beyond their loss, they should know that Eddie is revered as an esteemed colleague by many in his law enforcement community, extending to many Districts in our department . . . 
Great job Eddie, you have completed your mission; I see rows upon rows of Angels formally standing at attention, awaiting your arrival . . . I salute you . . .

Eddie. What a legacy you left behind. In your rookies. In your family. I have never met anyone as dedicated as you were to this job and your family. Your love for all of us will ripple through time. You set the example for what it meant to be a teacher and a father. If I could be half the cop and father that you were, I would have lived a good life. We will miss you. Your light will never ever go out. Until we see each other again, my friend.

Eddy was my first FTO, I'm so grateful for the time I had him. 

A great hard working cop, and a Wonderful human being.

Eddy will be missed by many.

First of all, deepest condolences to the Orrette family.  Yours is the deepest loss.  Eddie’s adopted Law Enforcement family are also in mourning.  His 54 years of dedicated public service as a Police Officer in our department is legendary.  For fellow Officers, he was a father figure for some, and a big brother for others.  I met Eddie on his second “tour”,  after he came back out of retirement.  And what does this seasoned veteran do?  He joins the FTO squad to train rookies.  He was an inspiration to all of us in Midwest because he worked his butt off.  But his greatest gift was the respect and kindness he showed to Civilians and Officers alike.  Even when he faced health scares, Eddie greeted everyone with a smile and a positive attitude.  That, my friends, is true courage. 

Eddie. Thank you for being a great friend.  God bless you, big brother.  I’ll see you soon.

Eddie was a great man . Eddie was also my trainer when I started In this job . Very funny and tells a lot of stories. He will be missed not only by me but the MDSO family .   My sincere and deepest condolences to his family.  Gone too soon . May he Rest In Peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾

I”ll  always remember Eddie as not just a great cop, but a great friend . He loved his job and was dedicated to it, but what really stood out was how much he loved his family. I’m really going to miss  his stories and his laugh.  He was one of the good ones and I’m lucky I got to call him my friend. Rest easy my friend.

I send my deepest condolences to the Orrett family. Eddie was a brave and dedicated deputy who made a difference every day. I worked with him for a while on the Field Training Squad and even though I was his supervisor, I learned so much from him over the years! Eddie made such an impact in so many lives on so many levels and will truly be missed! His courage, dedication, and resilience will never be forgotten. My family and I are heartbroken over the loss of an incredible neighbor this week. He welcomed us to the neighborhood 32 years ago, and from that very day, he became more than a friend — he became family.

He was a truly kind and generous man, always looking out for everyone and offering a helping hand whenever it was needed.

The Cardenas family will miss him deeply.
