Elizabeth (Lisa) Margaret Bohn, 63, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, peacefully passed away on December 1, 2017, after courageously living with metastatic breast cancer for over 14 years. A gathering in celebration of Lisa’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, 2484 South Bayshore Drive.
Lisa was born in New York City on July 3, 1954. She graduated from Coral Gables Senior High, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Miami, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law.
Lisa worked as an attorney for over 30 years. For most of her career, Lisa was a partner at the law firm of Jorden Burt LLP, and then a shareholder at Carlton Fields Jorden Burt, P.A., specializing in complex commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights. Lisa chaired the American Bar Association Banking Law Committee's Loan Workouts and Bankruptcy Subcommittee and the ABA Commercial Finance Committee's Creditors' Rights Subcommittee. Nationally, she was a frequent speaker and lecturer, and was widely published on such topics as consumer protection laws, secured transactions, and enforcement of judgments. Lisa also co-chaired the Consumer Finance Industry Group at Carlton Fields Jorden Burt, P.A.
Lisa lived life to its fullest. She was a lover of beauty and the arts, an accomplished ballerina, and excelled at many sports, including tennis, snow skiing, water skiing, ice skating, and yoga. Also a talented musician, Lisa could play just about any type of music on the piano or guitar, ranging from Mozart to modern rock. Lisa especially enjoyed travelling and spending time in nature, whether walking on the beach or hiking outdoors.
It is an understatement to say that Lisa was an animal lover. She rescued many, many cats, and was a devoted animal care volunteer at the Humane Society of Broward County. Lisa contributed to numerous charitable animal rights, peace, and scientific organizations, and was an outspoken advocate and performed pro bono legal work for METAvivor, a non-profit group dedicated to the specific fight of women and men living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. METAvivor is the sole U.S. organization dedicated to awarding annual stage 4 breast cancer research grants. Since her diagnosis many years ago, Lisa worked diligently to learn all she could about treatments for metastatic breast cancer. She readily shared her research findings, experiences, love and encouragement with other metastatic breast cancer survivors, and was an invaluable friend and resource to so many others who were also living with this disease.
Lisa was admired and loved for her generosity, loving nature, honesty, determination, and strength. She is survived by her mother and father, Patricia Bohn and Dr. Richard H. Bohn, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard Nicholas (Nick) Bohn and Catherine Boeckel Bohn, her brother, Chad Bohn, her nephew and niece, Hank Bohn and Medley Bohn, and her partner
and soulmate of more than 14 years, Eugene (Gene) Glancy. Lisa especially loved spending time with Medley and Hank, and she was very proud of them. She was also dedicated to her father, visiting him every Sunday and reading him scientific articles.
The family of Elizabeth Bohn wishes to thank the many unnamed people who loved her and gave her so much needed support and care. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be mailed to METAvivor, 1783 Forest Dr., #184 Annapolis, MD 21401, or donate online at https://secure.metavivor.org/LisaBohn.
