Evis Ortega, a devoted Mother, teacher, and friend, passed away early morning Saturday July 24th, 2021, at her home in Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Celestino A. Ortega Triana. Evis is survived by her daughters Evicel Ortega, Carmen Ortega-Plunk, Marie-Angelee Ortega and son Tino Paul; her grandchildren Tomás (Michelle), Rafael (Jennifer), Erika, and Stephen Douglas, and her great-grandchildren Leyla, Cecilia and Julian.
Born in Holguin, Cuba, she fled with her husband and daughters to the United States in November 1961. Her talents were many. In Miami, FL, she worked initially as a seamstress while they settled and established their family business, Triami Construction Company, in Puerto Rico. She also continued with her life-long passion for teaching children and established the San Lorenzo Pre-K and Kindergarten School in San Juan, PR. She loved to travel. The family life adventures found her living in Caracas, El Callao, and Puerto Ordaz (Venezuela), Acapulco (Mexico) and Houston, TX before settling in Miami, FL where the family has lived since 1989. She was an avid reader, decorator, master bow maker, landscape artist, and lover of flowers and animals of all kinds. Another passion was cooking and she was skilled in cuisines from around the world. She was gregarious, loved to laugh and share stories. Most of all she enjoyed to host holiday gatherings with family and friends and the dishes she created would be the basis for the memories of her that will live on in our hearts.
A Funeral Mass for Evis will be Celebrated on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 12:00 pm at St. Raymond Catholic Church, 3475 SW 17 St, Miami, Florida 33145. Burial to follow from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park Cemetery - North, 3260 Sw 8Th St, Miami, Florida 33135.
