Farides Maria May passed away Friday morning, July 3, 2020, at the age of 81. She was preceded by her deceased husband, of 45 years, Francis Joseph May who passed away on May 10, 2018.
Farides was born and raised in Las Matas De Farfan, Province in San Juan, Dominican Republic. She was one of the three founders of the Club Cultural Caribe of Las Matas de Farfan, which organized parades, dances, concerts and other functions primarily for the youth. In December of 1958 she was selected and crowned as the first Queen of Las Matas, headlining a town parade and dance. She spent many years of her life working as Parish Secretary and later as Executive Secretary for the Agricultural Extension Agency in town until she moved to Puerto Rico in 1969 where she was Parish Secretary until 1972. She moved to Miami, Florida in December 1972 where she married Frank. In Miami, she spent many years working for Miami Dade County and CAA as the Director of their Senior Employment Agency and was very active in the church at Christ the King.
She is survived by her two sons Joe and Gerry, her two grandsons Elias and Gage, her granddaughter Vivian, and her siblings Carmen, Alejandro, Ana Mercedes, Jesus and Antonio.
