

Dr. Fernando A. Montalvo, aged 102, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, in Miami, Florida. Born on June 5, 1922, in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Dr. Montalvo was a renowned dermatologist and a respected physician. After completing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Havana, he remained living in that city practicing medicine. He escalated his achievements to the point of becoming co-founder and shareholder of upscale medical facilities in that city. He dedicated his life to the medical profession, touching the lives of countless individuals with his expertise and compassion.
In 1971, he left everything behind and fled his homeland, with his family, to escape the communist regime and in this fashion give his loved ones the gift of freedom and democracy. He arrived in Madrid, Spain where he spent some time and subsequently came to the United States of America to live in Tampa, Florida. There, he prepared and revalidated his Doctor in Medicine degree. Later he moved to Miami, Florida, where he successfully re-instituted his medical practice and became again renowned in the field of dermatology.
Dr. Montalvo was a devoted Roman Catholic and was actively involved in his faith community, even writing and publishing a book titled “Los Milagros de Jesus” (The Miracles of Jesus). He was a kind, gentle, honest and loving man, cherished by all who knew him. His life was marked by his roles as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married to his beloved wife Alicia P. Montalvo, who preceded him in death, as did their daughter Lourdes M. Montalvo.
He is survived by his daughters Alicia B. Montalvo and Vicky Diego-Montalvo and his son-in-law Dr. Joaquin N. Diego (Cardiologist): son, Fernando L. Montalvo and his daughter-in-law Magela Montalvo: grandchildren, Victor with wife Jennifer, Beatriz with husband Anthony Cabrera, Jaqueline with husband Dr. Antony Farias (Nephrologist), Kelly, Julian and Angie; and nine beautiful great-grandchildren.
A private family viewing will be held at Caballero-Rivero Little Havana Funeral Home in Miami, Florida, followed by a Mass at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church and culminating with burial services at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, in Doral, Florida. Dr. Montalvo’s life and legacy will be remembered and celebrated by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to have known him.
