I had the pleasure of knowing Frank and working with him from 1980 to 1988, when we both worked at CHI.  His kindness, gentleness and depth of thoughtfulness were so self-evident that I felt emotionally enriched when I spent time with him.  We talked extensively about religion, politics, spirituality, philosophy and, of course, CHI.   Frank had a rock-solid integrity and decency that was inspiring.  He helped open my mind and heart to spiritual considerations that were not initially intuitive for me.  Frank helped make the community a little warmer, wiser, stronger and enlightened. Our deepest sympathy from the Senior Exercise Class at Christ The King Catholic Church.  Frank and Farides were both faithful participants until their failing health kept them away.  We have so many fond memories of Frank as he always joined in lively conversations and shared many stories of his life with us.  We will miss him dearly and ask that God grant him eternal rest  in His heavenly home.  Much love to the family whom we will keep in our prayers as they mourn the loss of this very special and loved man.

Wow!  I lost a great friend!  At St. Mary's College, North East, PA, Frank and I were odd men out, he a "senior" and me a "junior". in Biology class ( Bob Boelke).  And so we became lab partners.  We were also beekeepers at NE and Esopus.  We were horsemen at Esopus, an experience  that was useful for  both of us in our early years in Puerto Rico.  
When in 1957, I was assigned to PR, Frank was already stationed in San Lorenzo, I was assigned to the neighboring parish of Caguas.  Sunday night we had movies in Casa Parroquial and Frank came from SL.  We shared our experiences in the campos!  During that time, Frank organized a horseback trip from San Lorenzo to Guayama through the Cordillera Central.
Frank was later assigned to Las Matas de Farfan in the Dominican Republic.  I was lucky enough to inherit his brand-new chapel in Barrio Espino. 
I was later assigned to San Juan de la Maguana, DR.  We both had great stories to tell about our experiences on the night of Trujillo's assassination.  I left DR, but Frank remained for several  years.
Later when I was stationed in Aguas Buenas, PR., Frank was appointed pastor of the new parish in Villa del Rey, Caguas.  We both left community (sic) and married.  We both lived in Florida and visited back and forth between  Miami and Tampa.  God bless you, Frank, for your friendship and love!  You are truly missed!



We had the great privilege and joy of knowing Frank for over forty-three years, first as a colleague at CHI Community Mental Health Center, then as a friend and neighbor in Whispering Pines/Cutler Bay, Florida.
Throughout these years, Frank always impressed us as a man of great character and strength who possessed a vast variety of talents and skills.  So many afternoons we enjoyed listening to Frank’s stories of  his growing up in Brooklyn, studying at  Xavier High School and then at seminary, serving as a priest in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and the wonderful love story of him and Farides.
Frank was a curious and brilliant man who remained intellectually active to his last days.  He kept up with news events and continued to love books, even after his vision failed, by being one of the more active consumers of books on tape.  He loved talking with us about current events and theology, and discussing books that he recommended and we read.
Frank most impressed me as a man of faith, hope, and love.  He helped so many people in so many ways, and no matter what difficulty he was facing, he always had peace and optimism. Even during these last few difficult years, he remained the same regardless of circumstances. In this he was a true exemplar of Christian faith.
We are so blessed and enriched by our long relationship with such a good and loving man.

Frank and Fardes are friends  from the early 80's at Christ the King Catholic Church.  Their spirit and presence will always be present to us at Christ the King.  Faredes was a member of our women's Naomi group organized in the late 80's to minister to woman and young girls' in our parish and larger community.  Many times Frank would join us at our monthly meetings and sit in the living room while we planed our events and shared our cares of the day in the adjacent family room.  Once both were retired from their careers when you saw Frank,you saw Faredes and vice versa.  The both were a great witness to the fidelity of marriage and the commitment to family.  

Frank was our most coherent lector director for years.  We today miss his rally for training and direction with regards to liturgy.  We truly had an expert leading us.  I am sure he will continue to lead us as we remember our past trainings and pray for more assistance in our fidelity to God's Word.

Frank also  was a great storyteller.  We would carry on a discussion about everything and anything-from church ministry, politics, theology, and how to grow a garden of flowers and fruit.  Frank's sense of humor always brought out the best in me.  I love his devotion to family and how proud he was of his sons, Joe & Jerry. And how he loved his grandsons, Elias and Gage.  He allowed us to be present to his family which gave us permission  to share my family with him.

My prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends as we regroup  and recognize the new presence of Frank in our lives.  

Frank was a dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church, I remember him as the Lectors Coordinator, he had a dedication to the readings and  he always made sure that the Lectors were properly prepared.
In the last few years I had the pleasure to be able to bring Holy Communion to both he and his wife until she was moved to the Nursing home.
I continued to bring Frank communion up to the day before he went to the hospital.
Frank was full of spirit, we had many interested conversations and I will surely miss our time together.
To his wife, sons and grandchildren I extend my heart felt condolences.

I first became acquainted with Francis (Frank) May after I was ordained in the same congregation of priests as Frank.  Because he was several years ahead of me in the seminary, I never met him until after I was ordained.  My first assignment just happened to be in a parish from which Frank had previously been assigned in Puerto Rico.  He was very famous and well known in that parish because he had been assigned to a large country area of the within that parish where he obtained land and built a large beautiful chapel.  The people loved him both for his outstanding talent as a building engineer and more so for his pastoral abilities of preaching and counseling his parishoners.  He was a successful pastor of souls and a very efficient administrator.  He later became a very popular and efficient  pastor of a new parish in the neighboring town.

Frank and I both married wonderful women from the same Dominican town and that sort of drew us closer and closer together in our married lives.  I was even given the honor of being godfather to Frank and Farides oldest son, Joey.

Through the years we maintained our friendship and visited each other from time to time. They stayed at our home each time they visited the Tampa area when we lived there.   Frank was an amazing person; always, always positive and up-beat.  Frank always seem to see any thing negative as a challenge and he always looked for the positive side of whatever he faced.  We visited him just a month before his passing when he took us to visit his wife, Farides.  We  spoke on the phone often and he was always upbeat and full of energy.  We shared the privilege of having brothers who were members of the same religious congregation as we were; we shared marrying wonderful women from the Dominican Republic; and we shared the same first names.  I guess that all helped Frank and Farides to chose me to be godfather to their son, Joey!

Farides, Joey, and Gerry,  Frank was born Nov. 26, 1928 and I was born Feb.24, 1929, so I was always close to him through the thirteen years of seminary, since we sat according to age in the dining room and study hall etc.  Frank and I were best friends, although many, many confreres considered themselves Frank's best friend. That is the way Frank was. Everybody loved him and felt close to him.  Frank  and I painted Christmas decorations together for several years in the dining room. Frank was the artist. We took care of the horses, although Frank was the one who put knew shoes on the horses. We rode Trenton on the sleigh, and LADY ON THE SLEIGH, AND RUSTY ON THE WAGON. But it was Frank who had the reins. He was a renaissance man like Leonardo da Vinci. He could do anything he wanted to do. He was a genius. He was always a joy to be with.  Since 1945 when we first met at St. Mary's, North East. PA., Frank has never been far from my thoughts.He always brings a smile of joy and gratitude to have known him. I had two brothers, both passed away. Now I have three brothers to remember and cherish. Love you, Frank.
