Gabriel A. Rodriguez, Sr., aged 93, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Miami, Florida. Born on May 5, 1933, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Gabriel lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and professional pursuits.
Gabriel graduated from Ponce High School in 1950 and went on to earn a degree with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the Colegio de Agricultura y Artes Mecánicas (CAAM) in Mayagüez in 1955. During his college years, he joined the ROTC and Phi Sigma Alpha fraternity. He remained an active member of the Fraternity throughout his life, contributing to the Fraternity in Puerto Rico and later as a founding associate of the Orlando chapter in 1996.
Upon graduating college, Gabriel was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served Artillery positions at posts in New York and later the National Guard in Puerto Rico. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career as an engineer. Over the decades, he worked for several prominent companies including CORCO, Caribe Nitrogen Corporation, Libby’s, Borinquen Circuit Breakers, PROCON, and SmithKline Beecham
Pharmaceuticals, where he retired in 1994 as General Manager after a career defined by leadership and innovation.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Gabriel was deeply committed to his community. He was a founding member and former president of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers of Puerto Rico and served as a representative for United Way in Guayama. His dedication extended to the Club de Leones (Lions Club), where he held administrative roles in Ponce and was instrumental in founding the Melvin Jones chapter in Rio Piedras. Gabriel was also dedicated to the Colegio de Ingenieros Chapter in Ponce and San Juan where he held staff positions and served as Administrator of the Ponce Chapter. Gabriel also actively participated in the Chamber of Commerce of Puerto Rico.
A devout Catholic throughout his life, Gabriel faithfully attended Sunday Mass with his beloved wife Edna until her passing. Even after her death, he continued attending services regularly until
his health no longer allowed it. Gabriel married his high school sweetheart, Edna V. Morales-Rodriguez, in 1956. Their union spanned over six decades until Edna's passing in 2020. Together they raised four sons: Gabriel A. Rodriguez (predeceased), Oscar Rodriguez, Allan Rodriguez, and Ed Rodriguez. Two of Gabriel's children, Oscar and Ed, followed in his footsteps and became engineers. Both Allan and Gabriel, became physicians, all sons with
successful careers.
In their later years, Gabriel and Edna retired to Florida to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Gabriel and Edna were the ultimate doting grandparents, often hosting summer vacation for all of their grandchildren during the summers. After retirement, they welcomed their children and grandchildren home by hosting family gatherings throughout the years. They also spent time living in North Carolina close to Ed and his family before settling back in Florida where they cherished time with their growing family, including many great-grandchildren.
Gabriel is survived by three sons: Oscar Rodriguez and his wife of 41 years (Esther), Allan Rodriguez (Jorvic), and Ed Rodriguez; as well as ten grandchildren: Adam (Kerry), Michael
(Samantha), Steven (Elizabeth), Lorraine, Camila, Oscar Jr. (Hallie), Eric, Patrick, Alex (John), and Andres, and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Edna V. Morales-Rodriguez and son Dr. Gabriel A. Rodriguez.
Gabriel’s legacy is one of love for family and community service combined with professional excellence. His memory will live on through those who knew him best—his family members who
carry forward his values—and through the many lives he touched during his long life. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn him.
Services for Gabriel will be announced at a later date where a celebration of life will take place in Ponce, Puerto Rico
