Born on March 18, 1946, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gary was the son of Jim and Opal Goad. As a young man, he served in the Air National Guard and was stationed in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked as a pressman for the Albuquerque Tribune. He later married Beth Goad, and together they moved their family to Miami, where Gary built a career as a manager at The Miami Herald.
Gary's greatest passion was his faith in Jesus Christ. He faithfully taught Sunday School and especially cherished being in the same class as his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working on his home, gardening, repairing cars, and, in later years, growing orchids and relaxing on his porch while watching his grandchildren play.
Gary is survived by his children, Michelle Estes, Tracy Valdes (Carlos Valdes), Jeremy Goad, and Joshua Goad (Adriana Goad); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynn Goad, and his wife, Beth Goad. Gary will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and the many lifelong friendships he treasured.
Proverbs 3:5-7 was his favorite passage.
