Gaspar Arredondo, known to those he loved as "Mipa," was a family man through and through. Born on February 5, 1927, in Camagüey, Cuba, he was one of nine siblings. Mipa worked diligently as a butcher, building his own carnicería, part of a family network alongside his brothers and sisters. His drive to provide a better life for his family ultimately led him to make the difficult decision to leave Cuba and start anew in New Orleans. There, he rebuilt his life with pride and humility, alongside his beloved wife Angelita and their two children, Imara and Gaspar Jr.
As great as he was as a father, his love and devotion as a grandfather to MariAng and Amaury surpassed all. With a smile always on his face, an anecdote ready to share, and a glass of Chivas in hand, Mipa was a true legend, admired by everyone who knew him. He was not only a family man but also a dear friend to many, his presence bringing warmth and joy to those around him.
Mipa devoted his entire life to loving his family, especially his wife, Mima, whom he cared for with the utmost dedication until she passed earlier this year. His heart was never the same after losing his better half, and fittingly, his story came to a peaceful end just minutes after what would have been their 74th wedding anniversary. He passed away on September 9, 2024, surrounded by the family he worked so hard to protect and provide for—his children and grandchildren.
He was a role model of a father, a true Don. Mipa will never be forgotten, his legacy living on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A viewing service will be held at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South on September 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
