BAKER, HELEN, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017 surrounded by loving family and friends. Born on March 6th, 1919 in Bronx, NY, she spent her young adult life as a cosmetologist in NYC. She then met the love of her life, Walter Baker, Sr. They wed in 1940 and lovingly spent nearly 70 years side by side. She and her precious Walter were the picture-perfect couple, leading a fairy tale life. They moved their lives to Miami where Helen took great pride in raising their 4 children. She was an incredible inspiration to all who knew her. She was the standard for moral clarity, true righteousness, and as God's genuine guide to abundant life. A woman of great character, conviction, honesty, integrity, and compassion, and also one of tremendous faith, never shying away from talking about God and how good He was to her. She and Walter later joined the Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, donating thousands of hours over 20 years as volunteers. She truly set the bar higher for all of us. A wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that captivated us all by telling her stories, always lovingly remembering the past, and yet never forgetting her future, the real and ever so beautiful prize at the end of our earthly being. She is survived by her son Donald (Rita), and daughters Diane Canter and Janice (Jim) Haas, as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Walter Baker Sr., son Walter Baker Jr., son-in-law Logan Canter, and grandson Brent Alan Baker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Volunteer Department at Baptist Hospital of Miami through the Baptist Health Foundation. A family graveside service was held on March 25th, 2017 at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South. For online condolences, please visit http://www.dignitymemorial.com/caballeroriverowoodlawn
