A native of Miami, Florida, Jim attended Florida State University and University of Miami graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology. He then proudly served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot. Jim's passion for flying led him to career as a commercial airline pilot for Eastern Airlines for more than 30 years. His love for flight was only matched by his love for his family. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn S. Bowen (nee Verri), daughter Karen Bowen (Tom), grandchildren Kristin Samartino, Wesley Hevia, Katie Hevia, and his siblings Julie Lumbattis, Albert Bowen (Connie), Romalda De Mello, and Lois Hale (Geoff). Jim will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Hevia (nee Bowen), brother William Bowen, parents William Bowen and Pauline Bowen (nee Pike), and stepmother Alberta Bowen (nee Sallas).
Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm, immediately followed by a graveside service at Caballero Rivero Cemeteries and Funeral Homes South, 11655 S.W. 117th Avenue, Miami, FL 33186.
