Jonathan G Ortega

November 20, 1959 – July 17, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jonathan Gerardo Ortega, affectionately known as “Gerry,” who departed this life on July 17, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on November 20, 1959, in Pinar del Río, Cuba, Gerry was a beloved son, brother, and father whose warmth, wit, and resilience touched all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Victoria Ortega; his sister, Teresa Ortega Valdes; and his devoted children: Stephanie Ortega, Jonathan Ortega, and Damaris Ortega Villani. He was preceded in death by his father, Benigno Ortega, and his brother, Johnny Ortega.

Gerry’s life was a testament to strength, work ethic, family, and perseverance. Though born in Cuba, he made New Jersey and later Miami his home, carrying with him the rich culture, humor, and heart of his roots. Above all else, he was a father who loved his children dearly. Gerry was a character, always joking, dancing, and showing his bright smile.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27th, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Little Havana, 3344 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135. A burial service will follow on Monday, July 28th, at 10:15 AM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North, 3260 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135.

He will be missed beyond measure, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
