José Antonio Cedeño, 88, died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at The Residences of United Homecare Assisted Living Facility in Miami, where he was under the care of Vitas Hospice Care.
He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Paula Pilar (Guerra) de Cedeño; his beloved son, José Enrique Cedeño and his caring life partner, Joseph Costa; his beloved brother, Guido Cedeño; very dear and precious nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close and treasured friends.
Born and raised in Bayamo, Oriente, Cuba, the son of Enrique Cedeño and Carmen Arias, he emigrated to the United States in September of 1966, living in Elizabeth and Perth Amboy, New Jersey until 2017, when he relocated with his wife, son and family to South Florida.
Mr. Cedeño attended the University of Havana where he was awarded his Doctor of Pharmacy degree with highest honors in September 1954. He was also the recipient of the Sarrá (First) Prize in the subject of Organic Chemistry.
He met his future wife, Paula Pilar Cedeño, in Bayamo, Cuba in 1946 and they were married in June 1956. The couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in June this year. They loved to dance and spend time with family and friends and were inseparable for 73 years!
Mr. Cedeño had a passion for service. He served the communities in which he lived, establishing pharmacies in Bayamo, Cuba and later in Long Island City, New York and in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and the Lions Club. His passion for serving others was a distinguishing trait and one he will always be remembered for.
His family and friends knew him as the kindest and most mild-mannered man, who always made time when you requested his good advice or to just tell stories, reminisce and laugh or to listen to music and dance. As a hard-working man, he valued and there was nothing he enjoyed more than celebrating with those he loved.
A funeral service will be held January 3rd at the Caballero Rivero Little Havana Funeral Home and burial on January 4th at Woodlawn Park Cemetery – North in Miami.
