He leaves behind his four daughters, Gloria (Elliott) Zack, Anne (Dennis) Chern, Eva (Ralph) Sheppard, Regina (Robert) Crowley, seven grandchildren, Jason, Carly, Aaron, Kristin, Adam, Lindy, Ryan,
and five great grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie, granddaughter Casey, and his siblings Josephine, Anna, Peter and Edward.
Born in Barrington, Pennsylvania on September 3, 1924, Leo grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 during WWII. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack by the Japanese and fought bravely in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Leo he was trained as a machinist and attended Rutgers University.
During a visit to Miami, Leo met the love of his life, Marie. They were married for 61 years before Marie passed away in 2010. During those years Leo became a successful wallpaper contractor, working on the newest hotels, large commercial projects, and many prominent estates. He was
known and respected for his remarkable skill and loved by his clients.
Leo was a 32nd degree Freemason and Shriner. He was a member of Biscayne Bay Lodge # 124, the Miami Scottish Rite Temple, and the Mahi Shrine. He was an avid deep sea fisherman and went as often as he could, catching everything from sailfish to snook. With Marie, he spent many happy summers in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Along with being a humble man, he was a devoted husband, proud father, and was always there with a helping hand and words of encouragement.
Leo will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a remarkable human being and a shining example of America’s finest generation. A viewing will be held Friday, March 29th from 4-10 pm with services taking place on Saturday, March 30th , 10 am at Caballero Rivero Funeral Home and internment at Woodlawn South in Kendall.
