Lilia Valdés (known to all as "Llilla") was born on March 25, 1920 in Havana, Cuba, the third child of José Rita Valdés and María Lorenza Hernández, with three sisters, Esperanza (Tita), Delia (Llella) and Bertha (the youngest) and two brothers, Marcelo and Armando, and is survived only by her sisters, Bertha and Llella. Llilla loved the beach, and to dance, sew, and above all cook to perfection.
Due to her deep love for her nephews, Rey and Grizzel, which she help raise, Llilla left all her family in Cuba and came to the US with her sister Bertha to help care for her children, while continuing to provide for her entire family, and even helped bring her two other sisters (all 4 known as our "Golden Girls") and a brother to live with them in the US.
Although Llilla never married or had children of her own, she enjoyed life to the fullest to 100 years old and was a mother to many, especially caring for and raising all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her gift of compassion, love and selfless sacrifice became her life mission.
There are no words to express how we all loved Llilla for the joy, love, constant care and delicious food she brought into our lives (no child went without her famous purée), a legacy that lives on. The Lord knew all along she didn’t need children of her own because she was destined to take care of all of us for which we are eternally grateful and will be in our heart always.
Our Llilla is now celebrating in the presence of our Lord and Savior and lives forevermore because of her deep faith in God and trust in Jesus for her salvation and we are confident is now hearing His Words, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
