Luis Vicente Gutierrez, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on May 13, 2020 at the age of 80. Luis was born in Colon, Matanzas, Cuba on July 19, 1939. He attended the University of Havana where he obtained a degree in Financial Accounting and became a CPA. At age 27 he emigrated with his wife and two young children to the United States seeking to live in freedom. The family settled in Boston, and Luis simultaneously worked and attended Boston University for post-graduate studies and revalidated his CPA license.

His brilliant professional career spanned the next 25 years, beginning in Boston with Gillette, where he worked for four years before becoming an expatriate executive with Gillette and then later with Johnson & Johnson as Financial Director for Latin America. This position allowed him to live in Venezuela, Argentina and Panama until he retired in 1994 at the age of 55. After retirement he settled in Miami, where he had family and many friends.

Luis was a one-of-a-kind man with a tremendous zest for life. He was distinctly unique, charming and highly intelligent, but always humble, kind and generous, traits that made him very loved by all who knew him. He was the pillar of his family and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Over the years living abroad, he made many friends with whom he established long relationships that lasted his lifetime. He was a man of impeccable morals and work ethic and was highly regarded by all who knew him. His love of good whiskey was known to all, and the Johnny Walker Black that went hand-in-hand with his huge smile became his signature.

Luis believed in life and lived his to the fullest. Despite having endured personal tragedy after losing his adored daughter in an accident, and the subsequent death of his wife to cancer, Luis was able to move forward with strength and enthusiasm. In 2009 he married Maridel and together they created a beautiful blended family and took to travel and conquering the world. Their travels took them to many places in Europe, China and most recently to Japan. Luis was fascinated by all he saw and enjoyed their travels immensely.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maridel Gonzalez Gutierrez; his son, Jorge Luis Gutierrez and wife, Marisa; his grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriel and Michael; his stepdaughters, Erica Verde and Jessica Verde Tracey; his sister, Pura Valdes; his nieces, Viviane Marino and Lissette Valdes-Vidal, as well as beloved cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Severino Gutierrez; his mother, Luz Marina Orta; his daughter, Ana Elena Gutierrez McKay; and his first wife, Migdalia Elias Morejon.

Visitation will be Monday, May 18, 2020 6:30-8:30 pm at the Caballero Rivero Westchester, 8200 Bird Road, Miami, FL 33155.
