

Luis Tomas Roig, aged 94, passed away on May 25, 2024. He was married for 73 years to the love of his life Aida Valiente Roig. He was a beloved father to Luis (Evelyn) Roig and Gladys Roig (Charles) Quinlan. He was grandfather to Louis (Erica) Roig, Jaimy Miranda (Jackie Jesurum ), George (Katie) Roig, Jeannine Miranda (Scott) Stemmer, Giselle Roig (Mike) Valentino, James (Romina) Roig, and Jacob (Christina) Quinlan; great-grandfather to Hanna Roig, Charles Stemmer , Samuel Stemmer, Jenna Roig, Justin Jesurum Miranda, Jayden Jesurum Miranda, Jaden Roig, Brady Roig, Olivia Valentino, James Roig II, Giovanna Valentino, Jane Quinlan, Gabriella Valentino, Jack Quinlan, and Josie Quinlan, and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Luis, his brothers Enrique and Roberto, and two nephews (Enrique and Nestor Roig.
Luis was born on March 7th, 1930 in Havana, Cuba, to Maria Antonia Hernandez and Luis Roig. He was the first born of three sons (Enrique Roig) (Roberto Roig). He also has two siblings from his father (Magali and Oscar Roig).
He was very creative. He enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to classical music, and flying airplanes on his computer. He also enjoyed drawing and cooking.
When asked how he was feeling his response was always” “Hanging on” which became a nickname.
At the age of 30, he left Cuba with his family (1960) to escape the confines of communism. He came to the United States to give his family a better life. They settled in New York, but in 1972 they moved to Miami where he spent the rest of his life. Luis worked for Bungee Corporation in NY and for Cargill and DHL in Miami. Those he leaves behind remember him affectionately as Papa.
