Marcelina E. Garcia Estrada
August 9, 1929 – August 20, 2013
Marcelina E. Garcia Estrada, age 84, passed away on August 20, 2013, suddenly at her home in Hollywood, Florida.
She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, daughter of Dr. Juan Enrique Hernandez, physician of Tampa, and Francisca Hernandez (Mateo, maiden). As an only child, she was loved, pampered and enveloped by the love of her parents. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy where she graduated in 1949.
Right after her graduation, she married her sweetheart, Roberto Antonio Garcia, Roberto Antonio Garcia was an attorney and judge from Cuba, whom she met while vacationing in Cardenas, Matanzas, Cuba on July 24, 1949. He continued practicing law until his unexpected death in Miami, Florida, and they were continuously and interruptedly married until the date of his demise on August 19, 1992.
Out of that union she had two beautiful children: Robert A. Garcia, Jr. and Frances E. Garcia Rivera, both residents of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Hollywood, Florida, respectively.
She had two grandchildren, Roberto M. Garcia, III, son of Robert A. Garcia, Jr. and Teresa Garcia and Ada Roman, daughter of Frances E. Garcia Rivera and Sigfredo Rivera.
Marcelina was very fortunate to find a wonderful partner after the devastating death of her first husband whom she married on November 3, 1997. His name is Manuel Estrada, a former Mechanical Engineer from Georgia Tech and degrees form Perdue Univ. and UCLA where he also graduated with a business management degree. He stayed by her side giving her all the nurturing and love she needed throughout the years of their marriage until the date of her demise.
Although retired, Marcelina a former educator, always loved her students. She worked in Cuba at the Apostolado, in Cardenas, Matanzas as an English Teacher, worked in Colon, Matanzas at La Escuela Estudiantil de Colon, Padre Varela, Escuela de Comercio, where she was an English Professor. While living in Pine Hills, Florida, she taught at St. Andrew's School. In Connecticut, she was a permanent Substitute Teacher and she taught all grades at Old Saybrook High School and Old Saybrook Junior High School. She later moved with her family to Miami-Dade County, Florida, where she taught at St. Patrick's Catholic School, St. Mary's and St. Peter & Paul Catholic School.
Her interests were being with her family and friends, going on for long rides, going out to dinner, the movies and just spending quality time with those around her. Jose Jose was her favorite singer, loved movies of Tyrone Power and of Shirley Temple.
