Margie Berrojo Martin, age 81 and resident of Miami, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 2:15PM at South Miami Hospital. She suffered from cancer of the mullerian origin (reproductive organs) as a Stage IV cancer patient for one and a half years. During this time of medical need, she lived with her daughter and only child, Margie Martin Luis, son-in-law, Pablo Luis, and grandchildren, Stefano and Paulina, in Coral Gables, where in-home medical attention and visits to doctors could be facilitated while also receiving constant love and support. During her health challenge, Margie relied on her Catholic faith and prayers, and lived “one day at a time, one prayer at a time.” Margie received an outpouring of prayers, love and care from her family and friends, and they succeeded as her health declined in expressing their love to her while she could still appreciate their expressions. This brought her great joy and peace and, to our amazement and comfort, Margie died peacefully at the very moment that she received an anointment of Holy Water.
Margie was born and raised in Havana, Cuba, and together with her Mother, Emelina Ortiz, Father Joseph Berrojo, and Brother, Jorge Berrojo, they moved to New York City where, as Cuban immigrants fleeing Castro’s regime, the Berrojo Family started anew. She maintained her New York accent (which she enjoyed) and very often spoke of her upbringing on Amsterdam Avenue in the Upper West Side, walking to school in the snow on her own at the young age of 5, working in her Father’s “bodega,” practicing ballet, ice skating in Central Park, roller skating in Riverside Park, and her many school experiences. She married Rolando Martin, a friend of her family and war veteran, in New York City, where they remained married for over 40 years while living in Miami until his passing in 2011. For 35 years, Margie worked for General Electric’s Latin America Division, where she earner “Black Belt” in business during its leading years. Thereafter she provided excellent support to her family’s business. Margie is best known for her love of family, her devotion to her Catholic faith, and her delicious cooking, especially her desserts such as “arroz con leche.”
Margie will be missed for her steadfast fervor for life and grit as well as her constant guidance for her loved ones. Her physical presence is already greatly missed by Margie, Pablo, Stefano, Paulina, family, and friends, There can be no simpler remembrance and tribute to Margie than to continue to rely in our lives on daily prayer and love for our families.
