Maria Digna Arguelles, known lovingly as “Digna” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Weston, Florida, on July 17, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Cuba on June 14, 1932, Digna lived a life marked by strength, faith, and unconditional love for her family. In her late 30s, she left Cuba with her husband and two young children in search of a better future, settling in Puerto Rico for the next two decades. There, she returned to university to re-validate her pharmacy degree while working full time and raising her children—a testament to her resilience and determination.
She was the devoted mother of two children: her son, Justo, and her beloved daughter, Diana. Digna was also a proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren—three on her son’s side and two on her daughter’s side—as well as several great-grandchildren whom she cherished deeply.
After her years in Puerto Rico, Digna moved to Florida, where she obtained her pharmacy license and continued to work in her profession with dedication and care. She also lovingly tended to her aging mother during that time.
Digna never forgot her Cuban roots and often reflected on the life she once knew before the rise of Communism changed her homeland. Her deep faith shaped her life and legacy, and she instilled in her children and grandchildren a strong love for the Lord.
In the final years of her life, Digna faced a long illness with extraordinary grace. Despite her physical limitations, she never complained and remained a model of courage and serenity. Her caregivers—whom she lovingly called her angels—were inspired by her kindness, patience, and unwavering positivity.
Her beloved son was by her side and attended to her every need until the very end. Digna’s life was a testament to maternal devotion, enduring faith, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a family who adores her and who finds comfort in the promise of reunion in heaven.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
