She later moved to the states where she eventually met Charles Kelly whom she married in July of 1953. Mary is survived by her daughter Rosemarie Baker and her husband Mitchell Baker, her daughter Linda Coll, 4 grandchildren Mitch and his wife Brooke, Kristy, Manny and and his wife Lara, Matthew and 4 great grandchildren Jacob, Autumn, Brody and Noah.
Mary's love for her family, combined with her deep sense of tradition and devotion, formed the heart of her life.
Mary’s story is one of perseverance. From a young age in Spain, she faced significant challenges, losing her mother and a brother, and later experiencing abandonment by her father. Despite these trials, she showed incredible strength. Raised by her grandmother, Yaya, she found the courage to leave her homeland and immigrate to the United States, where she began a new chapter of her life. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Charles Kelly, with whom she spent 40 beautiful years until his passing in 1993. Together, they raised a family and created a legacy of love and support that will endure for generations.
Mary’s life was also full of small joys and passions. She had an affinity for knitting and crocheting, skills she shared generously with her loved ones, creating heirlooms that will be treasured for years to come. She also had a special bond with her dog, Joyee, who brought her comfort and companionship. Mary loved celebrating family birthdays, especially the shared birthday tradition with her husband Charles, whose birthday was August 23, hers on August 24, and their cousin’s on August 25. These celebrations created lasting memories and fostered an atmosphere of closeness and affection within the family.
A fond memory of Mary recalls her early years when she was just 11 years old. An old black-and-white photograph depicts her standing near a baby carriage with a group of Spaniards who had immigrated to New York, with little Mary right by the carriage. She would later joke that her 11th birthday was overshadowed by the attention given to the birth of her younger cousin. Despite the challenges of her youth, Mary always found humor and joy in the simple moments. The Kelly’s enjoyed bowling together, and Mary, initially struggling to roll the heavy ball, later became a seasoned bowler, winning trophies and participating in leagues—a testament to her perseverance and drive.
In her later years, Mary’s life came full circle. She found peace in knowing she would be reunited with her beloved grandmother and extended family, as she will be laid to rest in the same cemetery as her husband Charles, grandmother Yaya, Uncle Fred, and Aunt Amelia. Mary Kelly leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, strength, and devotion to her family. She was a true survivor—of adversity, of loss, and of life’s many challenges.
Mary loved life and spending her time with her family was her greatest joy. She also loved to cruise and go to Vegas and play those penny slots.
She lived in the house she bought with her husband for 70 years. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother (nana) great grandmother and friend. If you knew Mary, you loved Mary.
Her passing will leave a big void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary, we love you. May you be enjoying the peace and joy of heaven. ♥
