Born on April 1, 1925, in Cuba, Nélida was the daughter of Caridad González and Pablo González, and the sister of Mery González, Pastor González, and Pablo González.
Nélida devoted much of her life to education and to her family. She was an elementary school teacher in Jagüeyal, a city in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, where she dedicated herself to teaching and helping shape the lives of young children. Education and family were among her greatest passions of her life.
Nélida’s love reached far beyond her immediate family. She was deeply devoted to her only son, Hugo, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, while also sharing her kindness, strength, and care with extended family, friends, neighbors, and many others whose lives she touched. She was the beloved wife of Francisco Melo, affectionately known as “Pancho.”
Her family remained at the heart of her life, and the love, values, and memories she shared with so many will continue to be part of her lasting legacy.
May Nélida’s memory live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
