

Olga Olivia Cardet, 89, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 1st, 1936, in San Miguel de Manati outside Victoria de Las Tunas in the province of Oriente, Cuba. A lifelong lover of children she began her teaching career in Cuba during the late 1950s. In 1960, Olga came to her adopted country with her husband, Alberto Cardet, and settled in Miami. After the birth of her daughter, Olga Cardet, she taught children Spanish during the day and attended the University of Miami at night, graduating with her teaching degree. She subsequently graduated with her Master’s degree from Florida International University.
With her degrees in hand, Olga began 31-year career teaching second grade students at Kinloch Park Elementary school. She was awarded many accolades including Teacher of the Year. As one of her principals would say, “I never met a more dedicated teacher. She would not allow any child to fall behind, holding tutoring classes at 7AM every day to help those students.” Even after retiring, she continued her love of helping children by volunteering at Coral Gables Elementary for another 14 years. Learning her students had become responsible and successful adults always brought her immense happiness.
Her greatest joy was her love and devotion to her grandchildren, Michael and Amanda.
Olga was predeceased by her husband, Alberto Cardet, her parents, Mariano Ramos, Dolores Dominguez Ramos, and her sister, Ofelia Ramos.
Olga is survived by her daughter Olga Cardet, son-in-law Bert Lopez, her grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Lopez-Cardet, many friends, family, and countless former students.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Hugh Catholic Church, 3460 Royal Road, Coconut Grove and will be laid to rest at 11:30 at Woodlawn Park North, 3260 SW 8th Street.
