Peter Colón was born on February 23, 1934, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, but spent his childhood in New York City. At the age of 17, during the Korean War, he joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served for several years and worked with his favorite aircraft, The Sacred Cow, the plane that had previously carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Air Force One.
In 1952, Peter married Teresa Rivera in New York City, beginning a lifelong partnership devoted to family and faith.
After his discharge from the Air Force in 1955, Peter joined Electrolux, where he quickly distinguished himself as one of the company's top vacuum salesmen. In 1974, Peter moved his family to Miami, Florida, where he opened his own vacuum store, Caribbean Distributing, and became a successful dealer of Rainbow vacuum cleaners.
More importantly, it was in Miami that the gospel transformed the Colón family. The journey began when Peter Jr. accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Soon afterward, each member of the family came to faith in Christ, and their home was forever changed.
Peter made it his mission to share the good news of salvation with everyone he met. Customers who came into Caribbean Distributing to purchase a vacuum would also hear about the saving power of Jesus Christ. Through both his business and his personal life, Peter faithfully pointed others to the Lord, leaving a lasting spiritual legacy for his family, friends, and community.
He is survived by Teresa, his wife, of 73 years, three children, twelve grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Peter.
