Pilar Librada Ortega

Pilar Librada Ortega Rojo was a strong, selfless, giving soul. A shy introvert, her actions spoke volumes about her unwavering faith in the Lord and her dedication to family and to helping others. Born in Cuba, she made the life-altering decision to come to the U.S. 56 years ago to protect her daughters and ensure they received a Catholic upbringing. A loving, dedicated wife to ‘Pepet’ for 66 years, she was the caring mother of Digna, Maria, and son-in-law Gil. She also was blessed to be called Tata by her grandchildren Alyssa and Elliott, and great-grandchildren Xavi, Lucia and Pablo Jose. Always a doer, in the face of life’s challenges her indominable will to get things done and do good made her a beacon of quiet strength and caring. A seamstress by training, her daughters happily wore “bespoke” clothing well into their adult lives. Cooking was not her passion, yet she created recipe books crammed with handwritten and clipped recipes--organized by category!--including menus from years of serving fancy Thanksgiving meals to her family. Gardening was more her passion and roses and orchids were her focus and favorites. She lovingly tended to her garden and plants well into her later years.

Never one to take her blessings for granted, she was always thinking of helping others. There was an ever-present bag or box full of things ‘someone could use’ that she was in the process of distributing. As her health declined, so grew her gratitude and grace with those around her. Prayers were always on her lips, a loving kiss on the hand and a ‘gracias mi amor’ were gifts she often bestowed on those near her.

Her quiet strength, faith, and giving spirit were the models of compassion that will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Pilar Librada Ortega Rojo era un alma fuerte, abnegada y generosa. Tímida e introvertida, sus acciones decían mucho sobre su fe inquebrantable en el Señor, dedicación a la familia y a ayudar a los demás. Nacida en Cuba, tomó la decisión de venir a los Estados Unidos hace 56 años para proteger a sus hijas y asegurarse de que recibieran una educación Católica. Una esposa amorosa y dedicada a 'Pepet' durante 66 años, fue la madre cariñosa de Digna, María y su yerno Gil. También tuvo la bendición de ser llamada Tata por sus nietos Alyssa y Elliott, y sus bisnietos Xavi, Lucía y Pablo José. Siempre tenia obras entre manos, frente a los desafíos de la vida, su voluntad indomable de hacer las cosas y hacer el bien la convirtieron en un faro de fuerza silenciosa y cariño. Costurera de formación, sus hijas a gusto llevaron ropa "a la medida" hasta bien entrada su vida adulta. La cocina no era su pasión, sin embargo, creó libros organizados por categoría, repletos de recetas escritas a mano y recortadas, incluso menús de los años de servir comidas elegantes de Acción de Gracias a su familia. La jardinería era más su pasión y las rosas y las orquídeas eran su enfoque y sus favoritas. Cuidó con amor su jardín y sus plantas hasta bien entrados sus últimos años.

Nunca dio por sentadas sus bendiciones, siempre estaba pensando en ayudar a los demás. Siempre había una bolsa o caja llena de cosas que "alguien podría usar" y que ella estaba en proceso de distribuir. A medida que su salud empeoraba, también crecía su gratitud y gracia con quienes la rodeaban. Las oraciones siempre estaban en sus labios, un beso amoroso en la mano y un "gracias mi amor" eran regalos que a menudo otorgaba a sus allegados.

Su fuerza, su fe y su espíritu generoso fueron los modelos de compasión que serán recordados y extrañados por todos los que tuvieron la suerte de conocerla.
