Sheila C Drakes

She was the sixth child born to Veronica and Nathaniel Drakes. Sheila had five siblings: brothers Conway, Joseph (aka "Jumbo"), Spencer (aka "Boozy Boy"), and sisters Lynette and Louise

( "Mama").

In 1954, Sheila married the late Raphael Jones, which ended in divorce many years later.

Her first job was as a primary school teacher. However, Sheila soon decided to pursue another career.

After moving to New York in the 1960s, she worked as a Nursing Assistant at St Vincent's Hospital Pediatrics Unit, for approximately 12 years.

Sheila lived in Brooklyn, where she met Eric. They had one child, a daughter Desiree.

After the death of her sister Louise, Sheila decided to move back to Grenada for a short time.

In 1986, she and her family relocated to Miami, which became her new home.

Sheila continued to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and worked for several home health agencies, including Alpha Health Care and Nurses PRN.

After retiring, Sheila also volunteered part-time with Catholic Hospice in Miami.

Sheila was a long time member of Christ the King Church, and was also a member of the Affirmative Aging group ministry at the Church of the Ascension.

Sheila had many interests. She particularly enjoyed gardening, making ice cream, baking, sewing, doing word search puzzles, and dancing to calypso music.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Sheila leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Desiree, son in law Colin Mason, many nieces and nephews including Saylyn, Leonard, Keisha, Roy ("Bumpy"), Cecil, Celina, Celia, Casey, Erica, Angela, Crystal, Erika ("Rissa"), Remy, Claudia, Gloria, Clarence, and many dear friends including Norma and Ione.

The family kindly requests that attendees wear brightly colored clothing in honor of their beloved mother’s life and vibrant spirit. This celebration of her memory will reflect the joy and warmth she brought to all who knew her.

A memorial service for Sheila will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186.
