Silvia Maria Bode, 48, lovingly called “Chivi” by her family, passed into the arms of God and her papi, Manuel R. Bode, on March 24th, 2015 with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Buddy, by her side. Since early 2014, she courageously fought Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a rare and aggressive cancer.
The youngest of seven born in Havana, Cuba, Silvia came to the United States on January 10th, 1969 literally in her mother’s arms. She was proud to be an American, born in Cuba, forever honoring her parents’ courage for bringing her family to the United States.
After graduating with honors from Miami Killian Senior High School, she attended University of Miami on academic scholarship where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree followed by a Masters of Business Administration at University of South Florida.
Silvia was passionate about her professional endeavors at Burdines, Caribou Coffee and most recently PhaseNext Hospitality. She forged close ties to many, throughout her career in Tampa, Washington D.C., Minneapolis and Dallas, to name a few. The support and friendship from Amy and others, throughout the past year, was invaluable to Silvia and her family. Silvia leaves behind so many that refer to her as “the best – boss, colleague, friend - I ever had” because of her unwavering commitment, investment and belief in people. She was a rare person who truly left others better than she found them.
Silvia was nourished and renewed spending time with her family and friends. Silvia was strong in her faith and dedicated with her interests; she participated in many charitable activities including Catholic Charities. She was also a supporter of animal rescue causes and was an unabashed Miami Heat fan.
Silvia is survived by her mami, Carmen Pacheco Bode, and siblings Manuel (Maria Elena, deceased), Richard (Maria), Robert (Sharon), Carmen, Hope (John) and Lilly. Also mourning are nieces and nephews, Manuel Alejandro, Mariele, Douglas, Robbie, Carlos, Manuel Ernesto, Margaret, Nicholas, Emmerich and Sarah, as well as many other extended family members and countless friends who think the world of her.
A celebration of Silvia’s life will include visitation on Sunday, March 29th from 4:00PM until 11:00PM at the Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Funeral Home, 11655 SW 117TH Avenue, Miami, FL 33186. A Catholic mass will be held on Monday, March 30th at 11:00AM at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 9200 SW 107th Avenue, Miami, FL33176.
