It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Yolanda Caceres, who illuminated our lives with unconditional love and memories that we will always treasure. She departed this world at the age of 87 on November 29, 2025 in her family home in Pinecrest, FL surrounded by her loved ones and cherished dogs, Ziggy and Max.
Yolanda was born in Nuevitas, Camagüey, Cuba on February 8, 1938 to Roberto and Amada Bages. An only child, her parents, aunt, uncle, and grandmother all adored her and doted on her. In 1959, she married her dear husband, Secundino Caceres, with whom she welcomed two sons, Armando and Osvaldo, and built a loving family during their 31 years of marriage. Staunch opponents of communism, Yolanda, her husband, her parents, and her two young sons immigrated to the United States in 1967 to escape communist Cuba and create a better life for the children. Upon arriving in the US, they temporarily made a home in Chicago, Illinois and then, ultimately, settled in Miami, FL. While she never fully recovered from the pain of having to leave her native land, she was eternally grateful to and devoted to the United States and proud of the opportunities and safety that her sacrifice afforded her sons, and later, her grandchildren.
Yolanda became a homemaker, who took great pride in caring for her two sons, her husband, and her parents. She earned a teaching certificate and later ran a daycare program out of her home to support herself after the early death of her husband. She retired to take care of her three young grandchildren, Manny, Natalie, and Armando Daniel, full time. She devoted the rest of her life to them. Her children and grandchildren were her life’s greatest work and joy. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother.
No stranger to hardship, Yolanda was a paragon of strength, grit, and love. While life tested her over and over again, she was never defeated. She found purpose in caring for her loved ones and sacrificing for her children and grandchildren. Love wasn’t a feeling or pretty words for Yolanda; love was action and sacrifice. She was selective of whom she let into her heart, but when she let them in, she loved them fiercely. To know Yolanda was to love her.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her husband, “Caceres;” her parents, Roberto and Amada; her aunt, Leonor; her uncle, Aníbal; and her grandmother, Amalia.
Yolanda is survived by her sons, Armando and Osvaldo; her daughter-in-law, Marisel; and her grandchildren, Manny, Natalie, and Armando Daniel. She also leaves behind her family dogs, Ziggy and Max, whom she looked after and adored, as well as many close friends that will greatly miss her.
Her family will never stop loving her or missing her. They will never forget her and will always be grateful to her. They are comforted to know that she is now resting in the hands of God and that she will forever live in their hearts. They also take great solace in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones in heaven. In a beautiful full-circle moment, Yolanda will be buried with her late husband on what would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. For her family, her passing isn’t a goodbye, but an “until we meet again.”
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Westchester Funeral Home located at 8200 SW 40th St., Miami, FL 33155.
