Dalton Sparks

March 18, 1942July 22, 2020

Dalton "Sparkie" Sparks, 78, of Tempe, AZ. passed away at home on Wednesday July 22, 2020, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers Disease. He was born on March 18, 1942 to Odell Sparks & Mallie Estes Sparks in Irvine, KY. He was raised and grew up in Miamisburg, OH., graduating from M.H.S. with the class of 1960.

Dalton is survived by his wife of 59 + years, Pamela Robinett Sparks. He has two sons, Kevin Sparks and Kent Sparks, both of Tempe, AZ. He has two brothers, Johnny Wainscott of Dunnellon, FL., and Ron Sparks of Centerville, OH., along with loving in-laws: Dr. Gary Robinett (Jane), Brenda Robinett Hill (Gary), & Jill Robinett Hendricks, plus numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Dalton was employed early in his career by American Envelope and Dayton Power and Light. He later left DP&L with co-worker and good friends, Harry W and George C, to "hit the road" while working at Combustion Engineering, Cleveland Controls Co., and BTU, Inc. He was a “traveling man” and frequent flyer, travelling to jobs throughout the country every week for 13 years as an engineer and technician in the boiler/burner control industry. In 1982, Dalton and Pam moved to Tempe, AZ. after purchasing their own business, Combustion Controls Company, Inc. They also started, then sold, Combustion Systems, Inc. in Albuquerque, NM. They sold boilers/burners & flame safeguard equipment at Combustion Controls Co. until retiring after 25 years.

Dalton was very interested and active in Black Powder Cartridge shooting competition. He attended the Nationals in Raton, NM. every year with a group of “good ole guy friends”. He was also an excellent woodworker. He did beautiful work and had many projects he still hoped to make.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dalton’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or www.hov.org.

A casual graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tueday August 4, 2020 at Hillgrove Cemetery for family & close friends.

Dalton was married to my sister for almost 60 years and I often thanked him for taking such good care of her. The two were high school sweethearts to the very end.

He was a kind and loving man who I thought of as a second big brother. Always smiling, always joking around, always ready to help or advise when I needed it. A dear uncle to our children.
I will miss him and his gentle humor so very much.

As I only knew you later in life you made me feel like I knew you your entire life with your great storytelling. Whether it was your high school days or talking about your work travels, I enjoyed listening to them all, thank you for sharing each and every one. Though you never did share one story with me, your secret on how to build such a long and loving relationship... you and Pam set a gold standard that we can all hope to live up to. Rest in peace Dalton, you will be missed.
