

Age 99 of Miamisburg, departed this life to be present with the Lord Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from Heartland of Miamisburg while on a brief respite. She was born September 10, 1914 in Appalachia, VA to the late James Arthur and Lula Etha (Cannady) Callahan, Sr. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Stonega, VA where she grew up and resided for 62 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James “Jim” Callahan Jr., Roscoe Callahan and Jack Callahan. Elizabeth is survived by her devoted sister, Charlotte Gutheil of Miamisburg and brother, Casville “Bud” (Ruth) Callahan of Osprey, FL; 14 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was an active member of Stonega Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Later she moved to Appalachia, VA where she became a member of First Baptist Church and again became very active in Sunday school as a teacher and in Women On Mission, having a circle named in her honor. Having no family nearby, she moved to New Port Richey, FL to be near her sister Charlotte, again becoming active as a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of New Port Richey. After living there for 8 years, she along with her sister, Charlotte and her brother-in-law, Harry Gutheil, moved to Ohio where she became a member of the First Baptist Church of West Carrollton, OH. Due to her failing eye sight and health, she no longer was able to teach Sunday school, but was always faithful with her presence and giving. She was an active member of the Appalachia Woman’s Club and the Music Club. She was employed by the Wise County School Board and taught for 42 years; six years at Derby, VA and 37 years at Big Stone Gap, VA. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2014 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Funeral services will begin 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at First Baptist Church, West Carrollton and officiated by Pastor Mark Scroggins. Burial will take place 1:30 PM Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Glencoe Cemetery, Appalachia, VA officiated by Pastor Nick Brewer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elizabeth Callahan Circle C/O First Baptist Church at 401 Kilbourne Ave., Appalachia, VA 24216.
