Born on January 8, 1918, Freda was a 1935 graduate of Steele High School. She worked as a cashier until the age of 90 and held a variety of positions over a remarkable 75-year working career. Her employment included bookstores, clothing stores, drive-in theater concession stands, ticket booths, drugstore cosmetic departments, and soda fountains.
On October 25, 1936, she married Alfred R. Hill, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1999. In addition to her career, Freda devoted herself to managing a loving home and raising two sons.
Freda loved entertaining family and friends, cooking, playing euchre, watching classic movies, traveling, and spending time with those she loved. Her favorite destination was New Orleans, where she celebrated her 105th birthday.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald R. Hill; daughter-in-law, Pamela A. Hill; sister, Edna Heid Custer (Robert, John); brothers, Carl Oda (Lorean) and John Oda (Naomi, Louise); nephews, Don Oda and Larry Oda; nieces, Nancy Pritchett, Tinker Markley, and Theresa.
Freda is survived by her son, Eric S. Oda of Miamisburg; grandchildren, Andrew Hill (Elva) of Mason, Victoria Powell (Matthew) of Columbus, Rebekah Wall (Bert) of Lancaster, and Matthew Hill (Christy Wampler) of Morehead, Kentucky; great-grandchildren Jacob, Jonah, Serafina, Ambrose, Jemma, Aslin, Joshua, and Umbriel; special cousins Polly Brown of West Carrollton and Lee Drew (Jean) of Centerville; nieces Karen Heid of Union, Shirley Mlod of Fairborn, LaVonn "Frogg" Wilt of Westfield, Indiana, Barb Oda of Dayton and nephews Robert Heid (Kim) of Centerville and John Oda (Anna) of West Carrollton; along with numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, great-great-great-nieces and nephew, plus many cherished friends, and her special friend and caregiver, Deborah Croft.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5-8 PM at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home in Miamisburg. Funeral services will also be at the funeral home on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM, with an additional visitation at 10:00 AM prior to the service.
