

He was born on March 9, 1933 in Graham Station, WV. He grew up in Nitro, WV and graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Forestry. He went through ROTC and was an U.S. Army veteran who was honorably discharged as a Captain. Gerald worked for U.S. Steel in forest management. He moved his family to Ohio in 1969 and worked for the City of Dayton as a horticulturist and Director of Parks and Recreation until his retirement. He was a member of the Germantown Lions Club, Knights of Columbus Council #4587, and Miamisburg Moose Lodge #1645. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and golfer.
Gerald is survived by his children, David LaRue (Heidi), Carol Quackenbush (Rob), Susan Chambers (Dave); daughter-in-law, Brenda LaRue; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Peggy LaRue; son, Kenneth LaRue; granddaughter, Sharon Quackenbush; parents, Orland Todd and Irene Beatrice LaRue; and brother, Richard LaRue.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, Miamisburg with Father Tom Shearer Celebrant. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Good Hope Cemetery.
