Joy Ann Mindling, age 90, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 26, 2026. Born on May 25, 1936, in Dayton, Joy was the daughter of Everett and Mary (Gaiser) Howard. She grew up in Miamisburg and was a 1954 graduate of Miamisburg High School, where she participated in the marching band and student council. Joy later graduated from Miami University, earning her Master’s Degree.
With steadfast dedication, Joy worked as a high school secretary while attending night school to pursue an education degree. She went on to devote her life’s work to children and learning, retiring from Centerville City Schools after teaching in the elementary school for over 30 years. In recognition of her commitment to education, she received an Excellence in Education award in 1999.
Joy’s faith and service were central to her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springboro, where she played in the hand bell choir, accompanied the organist on the piano, and served as a liturgist. She also contributed her time and leadership as past chairman of the Clearcreekers and past president of the Roundtable Club.
Beyond her many commitments, Joy found daily joy in simple pleasures and thoughtful pursuits. She was an avid reader who enjoyed playing Bridge, working in her garden, and shopping. Above all, Joy was known for the warmth she extended to others, especially through the care she took in giving gifts—small and large gestures that reflected a generous spirit and an attentive heart.
Joy is survived by her children, Scott (Stephanie) Mindling, Kim (Steve) Hensley, and Jeff Mindling; grandchildren, Joseph Mockbee and Patrick (Breanna) Hensley; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cecelia, and Joy Mockbee; and nephews, Eric (Debbie) Davis, Jay Hines, and Chad (Beth) Hines. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Marjorie Kay Bowman.
