

GARRISON, Margaret McCumber, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 peacefully at a healthy 89 years of age in the temporary care of Miami Valley Hospital South. Margaret was born Martha Jane Thompson to the late Albert and Marian (Warner) Thompson in St. John’s, MI. In addition to her biological parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Floyd and Goldie McCumber; son, Donald “Skeet” Johnson; grandson, David Johnson; husbands, Bud Johnson and Herman Garrison as well as 6 siblings. Margaret is survived by her son, Otto Johnson of NV; step-daughter, Mary Garrison of Miamisburg; grandchildren, Emma (Larry Imundo) of Centerville, Kris (Becca Belvo) of West Carrollton, Ashley ( Mitchell Hall) Johnson of Miamisburg, Blair (Shawn Greene) of Las Vegas, NV, Olivia Peeples and Khloe Peeples,; great grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Calleigh, Alyson and Peyton; former daughters-in-law, Carol Kierstead of Miamisburg and Michelle (Brandon) Peeples of Miamisburg; siblings, Louise Stewart, Charles Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Ida Mae Thompson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Margaret was 1944 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, MI and graduated with a college degree from a university in Michigan. She spent the majority of her career as a Human Resource Manager for General Motors before retirement and then served as a personal finance assistant for Mrs. Greene of Kettering. Margaret led an active lifestyle and was always very independent. She enjoyed keeping fit and exercised up to her last day of life. She had taken up yoga and bowling and physically labored on she and her husband’s dairy farm during their ownership. She adored animals and often cared for showed horses and German shepherds as well as making donations to local shelters in need. Margaret worked for a time as an ombudsman for an area long term care center was an involved member of Parkview United Methodist Church and taught for a time in a one room school house. Margaret kept busy adapting to her changing abilities and taking up hobbies like handmade greeting cards, needlepoints and word puzzles. A Funeral service will begin 10:30 am Friday, May 27, 2016 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg followed by burial in Hillgrove Cemetery, Miamisburg. Her final resting place will be at the side of her husband, Herman. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Great Dayton or an animal rescue organization of the donor’s choice.
