Maxine A. Fielder, beloved mother, grandmother and cherished friend, passed away on November 13, 2025 at the age of 87. She was born on January 20, 1938 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Earnest and Ruby Saltzman. Maxine was one of seven siblings and is survived by her brother, Raymond Saltzman of Michigan.
Maxine was the proud mother and is survived by her five children: Karlene (Steve) Thompson, Teresa (Steve) Glover, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Gene) Tartell, Karl B. Keyes, and Roberta “Bobbi” Good (Dean). She was lovingly known as Grandma, Nana and Gigi to ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Maxine will be remembered most for her heart of gold and the empathy and kindness she showed so effortlessly to everyone around her. She cared deeply, loved generously and had a way of making people feel seen and valued. Her compassion was complemented by her gentle, quiet demeanor and the peaceful presence she carried. She also loved staying informed and keeping up with the world, something her family and friends admired dearly.
Maxine had many artistic gifts and shared them generously. Sewing became a passion early in her life, and she joyfully passed that skill on to her children and grandchildren. She taught sewing classes at The Stitching Post and lovingly gifted her beautiful handmade quilts to many.
Her creativity continued to flourish through one of her greatest lifelong passions: porcelain doll making. Maxine poured and fired her own molds, painted each doll with meticulous attention and handcrafted every detail including the clothing, wigs, shoes and accessories. She taught doll making in her home studio for many years and received numerous awards for her remarkable work. She also contracted with Ashton Drake Galleries and The Franklin Mint, designing and creating prototype clothing for their dolls, a contribution she was enormously proud of.
Beyond dolls, Maxine also loved making teddy bears, especially miniature bears, each one created with her signature imagination and care.
Maxine was a dedicated member of her community through the Lions Club, West Carrollton Chapter. She provided catering services for many Lions Club events and was honored with the President’s Award for her many years of service, a recognition that held a special place in her heart.
For the past ten years, Maxine lived at Canterbury Court Apartments, where she became affectionately known as the “resident seamstress.” She delighted in helping her neighbors with everything from alterations to crafting custom walker bags. She was an enthusiastic participant in the Sunday worship program and part of a wonderful sisterhood of friends who cared deeply for one another. Her days there were filled with warm friendship, Scrabble games and joyful birthday celebrations. Her family is grateful for the love, connection and happiness she found at Canterbury.
One of Maxine’s final wishes was to be part of the Body Donation Program at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, a wish that was honored much to her family’s joy. As they lovingly said, “Mom is finally going to college!”
The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Monday, December first at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home in Miamisburg. Her final resting place will be at Evergreen Cemetery in West Carrollton.
