Michael Joe Bates

Michael (Mike) J. Bates, 73, of Miamisburg, OH passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Kettering Medical Center after fighting congestive heart failure and lung cancer. Mike was born on November 20, 1945 in Muncie, IN and lived most of his life in the Dayton, OH area. He is preceded in death by his father John M. Bates, mother Anne J. Bates, and brothers Richard and John Jr. (Jack). He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Barbara A. (Faulkner) Bates; sons Chris (Diane) Bates, Bill (Leslie) Bates, Alan (Kristin) Bates; grandchildren Lauren Bates, Hope Rieck, Olivia Lykins, Ellie Lykins, Emmie Bates, and Benjamin Bates; siblings Beverly Ringler, Vicki Fischer, Robert (Connie) Bates, Scott Bates, Cathy (Tom) Beckstedt, Steve Bates; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike led a very happy, active life filled with family and friends. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Miamisburg. After high school, Mike served over 8 years in the U.S. Army primarily stationed in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He went on to graduate from Wright State University with his bachelors in business administration. His education and experience built his foundation as a successful logistics manager.
Mike had a love for wood working and tackling any home project thrown his way, no matter the size. He always had a hard working, do-it-yourself attitude. Over the years he helped many friends and neighbors with their home remodeling projects, and fielded countless numbers of calls on how to fix things! He also worked hard for his family, ensured any vacation, party, or gathering had every detail planned and was a success. Mike also enjoyed watching the Reds play, was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and watched many NASCAR races. Most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time with family and friends reminiscing about good times!
Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2019 at GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Good Hope, Miamisburg, OH. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton.
